Shopify Accessibility Audit & Fix
We test your Shopify store against WCAG 2.2 Level AA and fix what we find in the theme itself. One fixed price, delivered in 10 business days, with a written report of every finding and every fix.
- $1,495 USD, fixed
- 10 business days
- Fixes made in a copy of your theme
- 30-day fix warranty
What you get
A full audit of your store
Up to 10 page templates: home, header and mobile menu, collection, product, cart drawer and cart page, search, one content page, contact, and customer login. We also check the colour contrast of your checkout branding.
The fixes, made by hand
Liquid, CSS and JavaScript fixes in a duplicate of your theme named <Your theme> - WCAG 2.2 remediated <date>, with a changelog of every fix kept in the theme's files. Your live theme is not touched.
Your apps, too
We fix up to 3 third-party apps with CSS or DOM overrides. If an app cannot be fixed from the theme, you get a short defect note to send to its developer.
A report, a re-test and a statement
A written report of what we found, what we fixed, and what remains and why. A re-test after the fixes. And an accessibility statement for your store, covering the information the ADA and the European Accessibility Act expect a store to publish.
For 30 days after delivery, if one of our fixes breaks or stops working, we fix it again at no charge.
How we test
- Automated scan. Every template in scope is scanned against WCAG 2.2 Level AA in a real browser, with our Remedy engine and axe-core, the open-source engine many auditors use.
- Expert review. We read the theme's code and the accessibility tree behind each page: names and labels, headings and landmarks, roles and states, image descriptions, error messages and contrast. This is where most of the problems an automated scan misses are found.
- Keyboard testing. We use every flow with the keyboard alone, from the home page to the cart: the order focus moves in, focus that gets trapped in drawers and pop-ups, the skip link, and whether you can always see where you are.
- Human screen-reader check. A human screen-reader check of the main shopping path by iTechVista staff (NVDA on Windows, plus a phone screen reader): home, menu, search, a collection, a product, add to cart, the cart and the start of checkout.
What we do not claim. The screen-reader check covers the main shopping path, not every page, and we are not IAAP certified. We hold no accessibility certification and do not issue VPAT or ACR documents. We say so up front so you know exactly what the report covers.
How it works
- Book and pay. At checkout you tell us your store address, your theme's name, and whether you have received a demand letter about accessibility.
- Give us access. We email you a collaborator request, which you approve in your Shopify admin. You stay in control of what we can see.
- We audit and fix. Within 10 business days of access, you receive the remediated theme, the report, the re-test and your statement.
- You publish. Preview the remediated theme and publish it yourself, or tell us in writing to publish it for you.
What the report looks like
From a sample report: a dry run on our own test store running the Debut theme, version 17.1.0. Evaluated against WCAG 2.2 Level AA on theme version 17.1.0 as of 24 October 2026.
- 7page templates, at phone and desktop widths
- 8 of 8issues found and fixed: 7 at Level A and AA, 1 beyond it at AAA. Each confirmed by re-test
- 132 to 0failing elements on the tested pages (118 at Level A and AA, 14 from the AAA motion check)
- 13 of 14page views pixel-identical to the live theme after the fixes
Header icons with no name
WCAG 2.4.4, 4.1.2
The search button and the account and cart links were icons only, so a screen reader would announce them only as "button" and "link".
Fixed: visually hidden labels taken from the theme's own translations, so they follow the store's language.
Focus lost when the search panel closes
WCAG 2.4.3
After opening search from the keyboard and pressing Escape, focus jumped to the top of the page.
Fixed: focus now returns to the search button, on all 7 templates.
Slider dots
WCAG 4.1.2, 2.5.8
Each dot was a button inside an element also marked as a tab, and smaller than 24 by 24 pixels.
Fixed: roles corrected, the current dot marked, each dot at least 24 by 24 pixels.
Motion for visitors who asked for less
WCAG 2.2.2, and 2.3.3 (Level AAA)
Animations ran and the slideshow could rotate even when the visitor's device asks for reduced motion.
Fixed: both now respect that setting.
What remains: nothing our testing found remains in the theme. The report also states what testing cannot settle, such as whether every image description is accurate. This sample was made before the human screen-reader check was added to the service, so it has no section for it; every order's report now includes one.
The price
$1,495 USD, fixed
Paid upfront when you book. Work starts once payment is made and your collaborator access is approved.
Full refund at any time before work starts. No refund once the report has been delivered.
For US small businesses: the IRS Disabled Access Credit (Form 8826) may cover 50% of eligible accessibility costs. Ask your accountant whether it applies to you.
Not included
- Content you add or upload after delivery.
- Checkout code. Shopify only lets Shopify Plus stores edit it. We do check your checkout branding's colour contrast.
- Apps that draw themselves inside a closed iframe, which no theme change can reach.
- Content fixes beyond 20 sample products or pages. For alt text across a whole catalogue, our app Remedy writes it into your product data.

Questions
Will this make my store compliant?
We evaluate your store against WCAG 2.2 Level AA on your theme version as of the audit date, and we fix what can be fixed in the theme. No audit can promise a store is "100% compliant" or safe from legal claims, and we will not. What you get is a dated record of exactly what was tested, what was fixed and what remains.
I have received a demand letter. Can you help?
Tell us at checkout. We cannot give legal advice, so please speak to your lawyer about the letter itself. Our report is a dated record of what was tested and fixed, which you can share with them.
Will you change my live theme?
No. Every fix goes into a duplicate of your theme. You preview it, and you decide when it goes live.
What do you need from me?
Collaborator access to your store, approved in your Shopify admin, and quick answers by email if a fix depends on how you want something to look or behave.
Would an accessibility overlay do the same job?
No. An overlay adds a widget on top of your store and leaves the theme as it was. We change the theme itself. Our free overlay checker explains the difference.
What happens after the 30 days?
New products, apps and theme updates can bring new problems. Remedy, our Shopify app, lets you re-scan your store every week on its Fix and Remediate plans, so a new problem shows up in your dated record rather than in a customer's complaint.
Can I see where my store stands first?
Yes. Our free Shopify accessibility checker runs 12 checks on your home page and a product page in a few seconds, with nothing to install.
This service is a technical evaluation and remediation of your store's theme. It is not legal advice and does not guarantee compliance with any law or regulation. Our liability is limited to the fee you paid.
