How to Safely Package Your Computer for Mail-In Service
Safe Transit Protocols
Welcome to the iTechVista Mail-In Overhaul service! Proper packaging is critical to ensure your hardware arrives safely. Select your device type and complete the digital checklist.
The Essentials
Sturdy Box
Double-walled corrugated cardboard, slightly larger than the device.
Bubble Wrap
Large bubbles for primary impact protection.
Padding
Foam or peanuts to fill ALL empty air gaps.
Packing Tape
High-quality tape for the "H-tape" sealing method.
Desktop Packaging Checklist
Power Down & Disconnect
Shut down completely. Disconnect ALL cables (power cord, monitor, USB devices, network). Do not send cables.
Internal Hardware Check (Optional)
If comfortable, check inside to ensure heavy components (GPU/Cooler) are firmly mounted. Do not remove them unless instructed.
Wrap Thoroughly in Bubble Wrap
Wrap the entire tower in multiple layers of bubble wrap. Pay extra attention to corners and edges. Secure tightly with tape.
Prepare the Base Layer
Place a thick layer (at least 2-3 inches) of padding material at the bottom of your sturdy cardboard box.
CRITICAL: Fill All Gaps
Place the tower inside and pack padding tightly on all four sides and the top. The tower MUST NOT shift or move when the box is shaken gently.
Laptop Packaging Checklist
Power Down & Protect
Shut down completely. Optionally place the laptop in a large plastic bag to protect the finish before wrapping.
Wrap Securely
Wrap the closed laptop in several layers of bubble wrap, securing it tightly with packing tape.
CRITICAL: Include Power Adapter
Wrap the power adapter and cord separately. Place it next to the laptop inside the box, ensuring it cannot shift and scratch the device.
Prepare & Pad the Box
Place 2-3 inches of padding at the bottom. Place the laptop/charger inside, and fill ALL remaining air gaps tightly with padding material.
Click items to check them off as you pack.
What NOT To Send
Unless specifically requested by our support team, do NOT include the following accessories:
Box Selection & Sealing
- Strength: Use a new or like-new, sturdy corrugated cardboard box. Double-walled boxes offer significantly better protection.
- Original Boxes: If using the manufacturer box, we highly recommend Double-Boxing (placing it inside a slightly larger box with padding) to hide the brand and add security.
- Sealing: Use the "H-tape" method. Seal the center seam on top and bottom, and then seal all outer edge seams completely.
- Labeling: Affix the shipping label flat on top. Remove or black-out any old barcodes.
Shipping & Insurance
- Insurance: We strongly recommend purchasing carrier insurance that covers the full replacement value of your hardware.
- Data Backup: Please backup any important data before shipping. While we take utmost care, backups are a critical safety measure.
- Disclaimer: iTechVista is not responsible for damage occurring during transit to our facility caused by inadequate packaging.
