📐 PACELC Theorem
Extends CAP. If there is a partition (P), trade A vs C.
Else (E), when system is running normally, trade:
Latency vs Consistency.
Else (E), when system is running normally, trade:
Latency vs Consistency.
Knowledge Base
CP (Consistency/Partition)
System waits for majority agreement. If partition occurs, minority side goes down to prevent data divergence. Used in Banking, Inventory.
AP (Availability/Partition)
System accepts writes on all sides. Data may diverge (Split Brain) but reconciles later. Used in Social Media, DNS, Caching.
Split Brain
When two parts of a cluster both think they are the leader/active and accept conflicting writes. Resolved via Vector Clocks or LWW.
