Free Shopify Translation Checker
Find out whether your store's other languages are really translated. Enter your store address and in under a minute see which language pages load, link back correctly and were translated at all. No install, no sign-up and no email address.
It reads the language versions your store itself advertises to search engines, on your home page and a product page, and checks up to five languages on each. Every result is about a page your store published, so nothing here is a guess about your URLs.
Works with any public Shopify store that sells in more than one language through Shopify Markets, including stores on several domains.
What this checks
| Check | What it means for your store |
|---|---|
| The language page is not translated at all | Its visible text is word-for-word the same as your main language, ignoring prices. Shoppers who chose that language see none of it. |
| "translation missing" is shown | Shopify's own placeholder for a theme label nobody translated appears in text shoppers can see. |
| The language page does not load | Your store tells Google the page exists, but it returns an error. |
| The page does not link back | Google ignores language links (hreflang) that are not returned, so the right language may not show in search. |
| Google is told to index another language | The page's canonical tag points at your main-language page, which keeps the translated page out of search. |
| The page declares the wrong language | Browsers, screen readers and search engines treat the page as the wrong language. |
| Mostly in the main language (warning) | Language detection reads most of the visible text as your main language: partly translated. |
| Language link redirects (warning) | The advertised address sends visitors somewhere else. This can depend on where the visitor is, so it is a warning, not a fault. |
What a quick check cannot see
This reads the HTML your store sends for at most two pages in each language, so it samples rather than crawls. It does not run your theme's JavaScript, so text added after the page loads is not seen. If your store asks us to slow down, the affected pages are marked "not checked" rather than counted against you. A clean result means none of these problems were found on the pages checked, not that every page of every market is translated.
Check every page and every market
Locale Proof is our Shopify app. It crawls every language and market you publish and reports what your translation app did not tell you: pages still in the source language, broken language links, canonical errors, localised links that 404 and untranslated theme text. It re-checks to confirm a fix landed and keeps a dated record of what was found. It does not translate, so it has no reason to grade its own work. The Audit plan is free.

Questions
- Is this checker free?
- Yes. There is no sign-up and nothing to install, and results are not stored.
- Does it work with any translation app?
- Yes. It reads your public storefront the way a search engine does, so it works the same whichever app or service did the translating.
- Why does it say my store has only one language?
- It only follows the language versions your store publishes as hreflang links, which Shopify adds for each published language in Markets. If none are published, there is nothing to compare.
- Will it change anything in my store?
- No. It only reads public pages.
- Can I see every localised URL my store advertises?
- Yes: Locale Proof's free hreflang checker lists every language URL your store tells Google about, and which of them do not load.
- Is there a check for accessibility too?
- Yes: the free Shopify accessibility checker looks for 12 common problems on your home page and a product page.
